Kalyana Mitta Groups
Kalyana Mitta translates from Pali as “spiritual friends.” These groups are a great way to deepen one’s practice and form closer ties with members of the Sangha. Most of our Kalyana Mitta groups at SF Insight act as study groups. Each has 5-15 people who meet from one to four times monthly, usually at someone’s house. The following groups are accepting new members:
- A Metta group that meets every other Tuesday near Rockridge BART
- The "Adventurous Elders" Group for 55 and over that meets on the 4th Thursday of the month in Bernal Heights/Mission
- A free form Dharma Practice Group that meets on alternating Saturdays in Berkeley
To join a KM group, contact SF Insight at 415.994.5951, email Ed Ritger, SF Insight’s KM coordinator, or talk to Dawn Neal on a Sunday night. If you want to propose a new KM group focused on a particular topic, Ed can offer organizing and facilitation support.
The Spirit Rock web site also has a list of available Kalyana Mitta groups.
Dharmagiri
Dharmagiri, our sister sangha in South Africa, was founded by our friends and longtime practitioners Thanisara and Kittisaro. Since 2000, their Woza Moya project has served thousands of people affected by AIDS in rural KwaZulu-Natal. To learn more, read Woza Moya's annual report. Read about the Khuphuka Project, a sister project to Woza Moya.
