Awakening Presence in The Three Centers:
Body, Heart and Mind
with Eugene Cash
Five Tuesday Evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 pm
October 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30
First Unitarian Universalist Church
1187 Franklin (between Geary and O’Farrell)
How do we live a complete human life?
How do we live fully in relationship with the beauties and difficulties of human existence?
In this class we will explore our experience of the Three Centers — Body, Heart & Mind — through meditation, inquiry and contemplation.
We will investigate:
- The Body of Awakening: the ground of hereness, centeredness, steadfastness, embodiment, metabolization of experience, strength and power.
- The Heart of Compassion: the goodness of kindness, empathy, sensitivity, tenderness, joy, delight, courage, love and even-heartedness.
- The Mind of Wisdom: the space of clarity, perceptivity, openness, discernment, perspicacity and insight.
Our time together will include teachings about each Center and how they are taught and practiced in Buddhism. We will also contemplate our personal relationship with our body, heart and mind, investigating what we appreciate and what we don’t understand about each Center.
Every week will include: sitting meditation, a dharma talk, interactive inquiry / investigation, discussion and homework about how to manifest the intelligence of each Center in our everyday life.
REGISTRATION: To register, click on the Eventbrite button above. The sliding scale registration fee is $70 to $250. Please pay the highest level that you can afford. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, but it is also possible to register at the first class, space permitting.
TEACHER DANA: The teacher is supported solely by your donations for his time and teachings (he does not receive any potion of the registration fee). Suggested donations are $60 to $200 for the five-week series (or $12 to $40 per class). This amount can be offered to the teacher by cash or check (payable to SF Insight) at the first class or at each individual class.
FOR INFORMATION: Call 415-727-6220.
Eugene Cash is the founding teacher of San Francisco Insight. He teaches at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and leads intensive meditation retreats internationally. His teaching is influenced by both Burmese and Thai streams of the Theravada tradition as well as Zen and Tibetan Buddhist practice. He is also a teacher of the Diamond Approach, a school of spiritual investigation and self-realization developed by A. H. Almaas.
Since we want our classes to be accessible to as many sangha members as possible, we offer our classes on a sliding scale registration fee basis. For those unable to afford the low end of the sliding scale, some limited income & scholarship slots are available (please call 415-727-6220 prior to the first class if the registration fee is an obstacle to your participation).
* Please consider the highest level that you can donate in order to support those who have fewer resources. * We ask for your commitment to the full class series. Series classes build on one another; your commitment supports coherence of the teachings and allows the participants to mature as a group.
