Investigating Our White Identity Through The Dharma

A program for people who identify as white, committed to investigating how their white identity meets racial suffering.

Join San Francisco Insight community dharma leaders Eileen Spillane and Nina Gold for a nine-month journey to educate ourselves, share honestly, and inquire into the experience of being in a white body and the harms that come from the systems of white supremacy we are living in.

Working from a curriculum originally developed in the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader Program, this program will include monthly large group meetings, regular small group meetings, and assigned materials (readings, videos or audio) with self-reflection questions.

Large Group Meetings: Led by Eileen and Nina, we will meet as a group from 6-7:30 pm on the first Tuesday of each month on Zoom starting in July and going through next March. (July 7, August 4, September 1, October 6, November 3, December 1, January 5, February 2, and March 2).

Small Group Meetings: Each participant also will join a smaller group of 4-6 people that will meet for a two-hour session at least once between each large group meeting. The members of the small group will remain consistent throughout the program to provide a sense of continuity and safety as the program progresses. The small group is a peer led group and each member will take turns as the timekeeper or small group facilitator.

A full commitment to attend the small group sessions and the large group zooms for the full length of the program is essential.

Both Eileen and Nina have spent years investigating their white identity and privilege and are still learning and making new discoveries. They look forward to supporting you in unpacking these materials with wisdom and compassion.

In line with our tradition and in the spirit of Dana, no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Covid-19 has impacted us in different ways and if you can make a financial offering, a suggested donation of $50-$350 (monthly payments can be arranged) 100% of the proceeds will be forwarded dana to here in San Francisco.

Registration process:

In order to co-create a community where we can share honestly and inquire deeply, it is essential that participants commit to the full scope of the program and respond to three questions on the form below. You will receive an email from one of the teachers, with next steps to complete the registration.
